These eye-catchers are just that, they are large and brilliantly colored. One would not forget passing by a field of sunflowers. These plants are loved by butterflies because they have a large head that allows a perfect landing area for feeding and many small flowers to get nectar.
Sunflowers bloom in the summer and fall which make them very popular with migrating butterflies. They grow in full sun and tend to be very tall, averaging 2-12 feet, depending on the species. They are best planted in fields and large open areas, but can definitely be added to the back or sides of smaller gardens.
