Petunia (Petunia x hybrida)
Copyright: Patty Bigner
These delicate and lively flowers are perfect in gardens, hanging baskets, or window boxes. Petunias require full sun and will bloom from spring into fall. They are low-growing and can grow bushy or spread on the ground. Pinching some off after the first bloom will encourage more growth.
Petunias are available in many shades. However, butterflies prefer red, pink or yellow petunias. The petals can be stripes, contrasting veins, and picotee, meaning the edge of the flower is a different color than the center. You can create a striking arrangement by mixing several flower colors. They are a delight to have around your home.
