Orchard Grass (Dactylis glomerata)

This tall grass starts growing early and by late spring begins to bloom. It is commonly found in areas of disturbances and will survive in many different types of habitats. It was introduced from Europe for producing hay and grazing livestock. Many large and small wild mammals use it for food and protection and songbirds feed on the seeds. This is a wonderful grass to mix with other grasses for planting in disturbed areas as well as pastures and prairies.
