Little Bluestem Grass (Schizachyrium scoparium)
Little Bluestem Grass is an ornamental perennial that is an attractive addition to landscapes all season long. This grass is silvery-blue clumps ranging one to two feet in height. From late summer to early fall, its blue color intensifies and clusters of flowering stems form to a height of five feet. The flowering spikes range from blue-green to silvery gold throughout the fall season. The grass turns red to copper following the first frost, making it noteworthy throughout the winter months.
Drought resistant, this plant does best in part to full sun and well-drained soil. It is an excellent choice for use in natural settings or wildscapes since the Little Blue Grass will grow in rocky and rough areas and at the edge of woods and pastures. An attractive accent for your garden, Little Bluestem Grass will provide much interest when planted and combined with flowering perennials.
