Blackberry (Rosaceae Rubus)
Popular for their use in jellies and desserts, the hearty Blackberry plant is actually related to the bramble bush.
This perennial attracts butterflies and bees and bears beautiful white and pink blooms in the spring. Drought-prone areas will support shallow-rooted BlackBerry plants as they are well suited to poor soil.
BlackBerry plants are strong enough to thrive in ditches and vacant lots, but will quickly become a thorny, thick, and tangled disarray if not well managed.
