California Sister (Adelpha bredowii)
(aka Bredow’s Sister)
This glorious butterfly is a beautiful sight to see flying around Oak trees and sipping juices from fruit. They rarely visit flowers, but enjoy basking in the sun and mud puddling. They are usually quite easy to get close to as long as you are quite. A distinguishing marking is the black outline around the orange on their forewings. If you get to see the undersides of their wings, they have a lovely blue mixed in with the colors. This is the perfect butterfly to see gliding around your wooded lots and fruit trees.
