This lovely, little blue butterfly has more to it than meets the eye. It is unknown whether this is a single species or if there are multiple species that are all known as Spring Azures. They have many seasonal forms and in the north there may only be one brood, while in the south they fly all year.
Many also feed on different host plants. Depending on what is blooming, the eggs are laid on flowers and the caterpillars eat only the flowers and fruits. This is a complicated little butterfly that will be fun to watch through the years in research, as well as in our personal gardens.
