Golden-headed Scallopwing (Staphylus ceos)
This small black butterfly is distinguished by its golden orange head and black fringes on its slightly scalloped-edged wings. It is a delight to watch from spring to fall in desert valleys and canyons. They perch frequently with their wings almost always open and the males commonly patrol areas in search of females. This is a unique skipper to observe and is sure to be enjoyed by everyone who has the opportunity.
