There is nothing better than being able to go out to the garden and cut fresh herbs to add to the food we prepare in our kitchens. But some herbs, like the three listed below, are the very food needed by the caterpillars of Black Swallowtails and others to survive.
Herbs are versatile. They can be planted in beds as ground cover or filler, or in containers and pots. You may want to cover the plants you will eat but be sure to leave some plants accessible to our butterfly friends.
As much as you enjoy the aromatic scents and flavors of fresh herbs, butterflies need them to sustain multiple generations of caterpillars throughout the season.
