A year ago, while walking my dogs, a Monarch butterfly flew by closely, followed by a Butterfly with translucent wings that landed on my right index finger. The butterfly remained there for a minute or two before flying away. I had been thinking of a romantic interest who had recently passed on. I wonder if this experience was from the spirit of the deceased.

A translucent butterfly, on the other hand, (no pun intended!) can symbolize a variety of things, including purity and resurrection. They are also thought to symbolize the souls of the dead.
With all this in mind, there’s actually a very good chance that your beloved knew you were thinking of them. Your beloved wanted to reciprocate somehow.
