This tall narrow plant is native to the United States. It is a perennial that grows primarily in prairies and moist areas. The Swamp Verbena has lovely blue-purple flower spikes. It blooms in rings around the bottom of the spike first and then blooms upwards.
The flowers can be seen from June until frost. The genus name, Verbena, means scared plant in Latin and these beautiful flowers deserve a special place in butterfly gardens.
